  • 3 tournaments/play dates
  • U10 (2014) intro to Surf Select program – National Team and NorCal

During these important development years, we focus primarily on refining technical skills needed to play the game effectively in the context of team play. As players progress through this phase, we add 1v1 attacking and defending and introduce concepts of adapting technical skills to positions players are playing within a system of play.

U11-U12 (2013-2012) Competitive Phase I (9v9)

We continue with a strong focus on technical skills while introducing concepts related to whole team offense and defense and transition from and to offense and defense. Coaches start paying attention to social and psychological aspects of the game associated with being on a competitive sports team. Fitness and specific “soccer conditioning” are introduced at practices and camps and clinics. In the U12 year, concepts related to the transition to 11v11 play are introduced and teams and players will experience “playing up” in 11v11 events and scrimmages.

U13-U14 (2011-2010) Competitive Phase II (11v11)

At this phase, players and teams learn to adapt team playing principles and individual technical skills to the larger field. Coaches balance technical training with the social, physical and psychological aspect of playing a competitive sport at an intermediate to advanced level. There is a strong emphasis on “moments of the game” ie: when WE have the ball, when THEY have the ball along with team and individual behaviors when WE lose the ball and when We gain the ball. By focusing on the whole player, we prepare them for advanced stages of play.
